Bennett shortlisted for ICC Men’s Player of the Month

ZIMBABWE opener Brian Bennett has been shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for September, joining India’s Abhishek Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav on the three-man list.

Bennett, who also represents SOGO Rangers in the domestic league, enjoyed a golden run with the bat including his maiden T20 century in the recently ended ICC Men’s T20 Africa Qualifier. He scored 497 runs in nine T20I at an average of 55 and a strike rate above 160. His form was central to Zimbabwe’s push for a place at next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

The 21-year-old struck three major innings at the Africa Regional Final, 72 against Tanzania, 65 against Nigeria, and a career best 111 against Kenya, to all but seal Zimbabwe’s qualification. His runs came after impressive returns in earlier series against Sri Lanka and Namibia, where he topped the charts across both contests.

Bennett’s ability to dominate at the top of the order has made him one of Zimbabwe’s most reliable performers in a format where consistency is often hard to come by. His nomination marks another step forward in a year that has seen him grow into the national side’s key batter.

If he wins, Bennett would become the first Zimbabwean cricketer to claim the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award. Voting is open on the ICC’s official website.
