CRICKET Cranes opener Robinson Obuya was in full flow, smashing the ball to all parts of the ground as Ceylon Lions thrashed Africa Cricket Club by 228 runs to claim their third win in the Uganda T20 Cup on Sunday.
Ceylon Lions, who had lost their first two matches to Kutchi Tigers, started the day with a 132-run win over the same team and went even bigger in the afternoon.
Fresh from Uganda’s failed World Cup qualifying campaign in Zimbabwe, Obuya took out his frustration on the Mukono side, blasting 158 runs from 56 balls. His powerful innings included 15 fours and 12 maximums. It was his second century of the year, following a 73 from 35 balls earlier in the morning.
The 24-year-old got strong support from his opening partners. Hamu Kayondo scored 63 from 40 balls in the morning game, while Charles Musemeza hit 90 from 47 in the afternoon as Ceylon Lions climbed to second place in Group D.
Group leaders Kutchi Tigers also impressed, beating Mukono Development by 21 runs in the first game and by 10 wickets in the second, which was the lowest-scoring match of the weekend.
Defending champions Wanderers had an easy time against Budo, winning by 83 runs and 8 wickets in their Saturday games.
Budo struggled again on Sunday, losing by 149 runs in the morning and 185 runs in the afternoon to GM Sugar. Pramit Harishbhai Patel hit an unbeaten 82 in the second game, while Mehulkumar Chotubhai missed a century by just three runs, scoring 97 in the first match.
In Group C, Avengers stayed top with two wins over Jinja SS, while in Group B, Rounders kept their lead after beating Nile twice on Saturday.
It was a mixed day for Aboojo in Group B. They beat Mukono Warriors by six wickets in the morning, but their afternoon match was stopped by rain.
Tornado Bees faced the same fate in Group A. They beat SKLPS by four runs, with Simon Ssesazi scoring 64 from 37 balls, before their second game was washed out.
