Chevrons Ready to Express Themselves Against Australia

ZIMBABWE heads into Friday’s high-stakes ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Group B clash against Australia with high spirits and a clinical mindset.

Following an eight-wicket thumping of Oman, the Mukuru-sponsored Chevrons are focusing on current form and precision as they prepare to take on the cricket giants at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

While the history books fondly remember Zimbabwe’s famous five-wicket win over Australia in the 2007 edition, head coach Justin Sammons is steering the narrative toward the present. For Sammons, the path to another upset lies in the clinical execution that defined their opening Group B victory.

“I thought we were superb against Oman. Yeah, guys were on it from an execution point of view,” Sammons noted.

“At the end of the day, we’ve got to execute, and that’s what it will boil down to, are we able to execute our skills?”

The victory over Oman was a testament to the squad’s depth and discipline. The pace trio of Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, and Brad Evans tormented the opposition with three wickets apiece, while Brian Bennett’s unbeaten 48 showcased a fearless new generation of Zimbabwean batting.

Rather than being weighed down by the magnitude of facing a perennial powerhouse, Sammons wants his players to embrace the grand stage with confidence.

“Obviously we take confidence from the past, but it comes down to what we do in the moment, one ball at a time,” Sammons said.
