Mukuhlani optimistic about future of Zimbabwe Cricket

ZIMBABWE Cricket (ZC) chairperson Tavengwa Mukuhlani is optimistic about the future of cricket in the country, despite recent challenges.

In a media interaction at Harare Sports Club yesterday, he expressed his confidence in the potential of Zimbabwean cricketers and the structures being put in place to support them.

“We are working hard to develop cricket in Zimbabwe, and I am confident that we will see a resurgence in the sport’s popularity and success,” he said.

“We are committed to providing our players with the necessary support and resources to excel on the international stage.”

The newly appointed Africa Cricket chairperson highlighted the importance of investing in grassroots cricket, citing the need for better infrastructure, coaching, and training facilities.

“We are working to identify and nurture young talent, and provide them with the opportunities they need to succeed,” he added.

One of the key initiatives being implemented by ZC is the development of cricket programs in schools and communities. under the banner Cricket Kumusha/ Cricket Ekhaya banner.

“We believe that cricket should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or location,” said Mukuhlani.

“We are working to promote the sport in schools and communities, and provide opportunities for young players to develop their skills.”

The chairperson also touched on the issue of criticism from certain quarters, including from David Coltart, the Mayor of Bulawayo.

“While we appreciate the passion and interest in cricket, we believe that constructive criticism and support would be more beneficial to the sport’s development,” he said.

“We understand that there are challenges, but we are working hard to address them. We would appreciate it if stakeholders and critics could work with us to find solutions, rather than just pointing out problems.”

The Mhondoro-Ngezi legislator emphasised that ZC is committed to transparency and accountability, and is working to ensure that the sport is developed in a sustainable and inclusive manner.

“We are working to build a strong foundation for cricket in Zimbabwe, and we believe that this will pay dividends in the long run,” he said.

Despite the challenges, the chairperson remains optimistic about the future of cricket in Zimbabwe.

“We have a talented pool of players, and with the right support and resources, I am confident that they will excel on the international stage,” he said.

“We are working hard to develop cricket in Zimbabwe, and I believe that our efforts will pay off in the long run. We are committed to providing our players with the necessary support and resources to succeed, and we are confident that they will make us proud.”
