NAMIBIA made a flying start to their ICC Africa T20I Qualifiers campaign with a crushing 136-run victory over Kenya at Harare Sports Club on Friday.

The star of the day was Johannes Smit, who smashed a brilliant unbeaten 111 from just 39 balls, hitting 12 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 284.61. His explosive knock lifted Namibia to a massive total of 241 for 5 in their 20 overs – the highest score of the tournament so far.

Captain Gerhard Erasmus also chipped in with 58 off 32 balls, while Jan Frylinck made 33 off 17. Kenya’s bowlers struggled throughout, with Peter Langat conceding 62 runs in his four overs. Dhiren Gondaria was the most successful with two wickets for 15.

Chasing 242, Kenya struggled to take off. Wickets fell at regular intervals as Namibia’s bowlers kept the pressure on. Wicketkeeper Sukhdeep Singh (34 off 36) and Jasraj Kundi (17 off 16) showed some resistance.

Alexander Busing-Volschenk and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton took two wickets each, while Bernard Scholtz also bagged 2 for 23. Kenya finished on 105 for seven in their 20 overs, falling well short of the target.
