Takashinga and Rangers Dominate as Zim NPL Title Race Heats Up

TAKASHINGA Patriots 2 crushed Chiredzi by 180 runs at Masvingo Sports Club on Sunday. Baxon Gopito top-scored with 89 from 61 balls after Tanunurwa Makoni’s 62 and Ryan Kamwemba’s 57 had built a solid foundation in a third-wicket stand of 130.

Their efforts carried Takashinga to 298 for nine in 45 overs. Chiredzi folded for 118, with Gabriel Jaya’s 17 the top score. Wishnenzy Chapfombo and John Masara took three wickets apiece, while Arineshto Vhezha chipped in with two.

At Old Hararians, Gladiators outplayed Mbizo by 98 runs after centuries from Milton Shumba and Lennox Chando. The pair added 242 for the second wicket, Shumba making 138 and Chando 122 as Gladiators posted 328 for four. Mbizo replied with 230 for nine, Selim Salau scoring 54, but the chase never threatened.

League leaders Rangers made light work of Amakhosi 2 at Kwekwe Sports Club, winning by nine wickets. Wallace Mubayiwa and Johnathan Campbell shared six wickets to dismiss Amakhosi for 110, before David Johnson’s 55 not out and Jayden Schadendorf’s unbeaten 35 sealed victory in just 11.5 overs.

Methane Lions secured a 62-run win over Westside in Masvingo, posting 240 for seven with Huzefa Ali scoring 61 and Tawanda Damiso unbeaten on 46. Westside’s reply never got going despite 61 from Moses Karimaguti, and Damiso finished with three wickets alongside Richmond Mutumbami’s three for 38.

Takashinga Patriots 1 proved too strong for Eastern Titans, winning by 133 runs at Old Hararians. Ronak Patel anchored the innings with 96 not out and shared a stand with Tafadzwa Tsiga, who hit 66 not out, as the side reached 263 for five. Titans managed only 130 in reply as Graeme Cremer tore through with five for 27.

In Kadoma, Rimuka edged Alexandra by three wickets. Hamza Khan (53) and Ahsan Aqil Ali (48) lifted Alexandra to 202, but Nyasha Dube’s four for 31 pegged them back. Rimuka chased down the target with Nyasha Mayavo (52) and Villan Changa (50) leading the way despite four wickets from Saood Khan.

Amakhosi 1 claimed bragging rights in the Bulawayo derby with a four-wicket win over Queens at Bulawayo Athletic Club. Queens collapsed for 111 despite Munashe Chimusoro’s 65, with Tinaye Mazonde and Talent Dzikiti taking three wickets each. Brian Chari then guided Amakhosi home with an unbeaten 27 after a wobble at 49 for four.
