Uganda 74/8 UAE 75/0
UAE win by 10 wickets.
THE Victoria Pearls were no match for the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday as they were pummeled by 10 wickets in their fourth game at the ongoing ICC Women’s Emerging Nations T20 Trophy in Bangkok, Thailand.
After their defeats to Scotland and Namibia in the opening two games, Deus Muhumuza’s team bounced back with a narrow four-run victory against PNG on Sunday, but they were put to the sword this morning.
The side was asked to bat first after losing the toss, and they managed only 74 runs for eight wickets. Team skipper Janet Mbabazi, whose half-century on Sunday guided the side to their lone victory, scored only 16 as an opener.
Wicketkeeper Kevin Awino, with 13 off 30, and Proscovia Alako, with 12 off 18, were the other Ugandan players who reached double digits as they set 74/8.
UAE did not need to stress during the chase. They found little resistance as they got the job done in 8.2 overs.
Opener Esha Oza took the Ugandan bowlers to the cleaners, hitting 48 not out off 30 balls.
Wicketkeeper Satish Theertha was also unbeaten with 22 off 20.
This was UAE’s second victory in the competition, taking them up to third in the standings.
Uganda remain second from the bottom with only two points.
Uganda will face the hosts next on Wednesday. Thailand are currently second with six points, having won three out of four games. Only Scotland—the table leaders—have won more matches, with victories in all their opening four games.
