KENNY Waiswa shone brightly for Wedgwood Cricket Club as they thrashed Meir Heath Cricket Club by 107 runs in a North Staffs and South Cheshire League Division 2 match played at the Wedgwood Sports Ground in Barlastone, Stoke-on-Trent, England on Saturday.
The Ugandan all-rounder’s impressive form continued as he scored a century, hitting 114 runs off 109 balls, including seven fours and eight sixes. Waiswa’s knock was instrumental in Wedgwood’s declaration on 236/7 after 43 overs.
Meir Heath struggled to withstand the heat, and their batting lineup crumbled under pressure. They were bowled out for 129 runs inside 42.4 overs, with Waiswa claiming one wicket for 20 runs from five overs. Fehsal Hussein was the pick of the Wedgwood bowlers, taking three wickets for 10 runs in just 2.4 overs. Usman Saleem, Ade Lello, and Aaron Tymczuk also chipped in with two wickets apiece.
This was a significant turnaround for Waiswa, who had scored a half-century in the previous match against Sandyford Cricket Club but ended up on the losing side.
Reflecting on his performance, Waiswa told Cricket Africa, “I didn’t score in the two games before, but it was key for me to keep trusting my abilities to do well for my new club and get to work with the new teammates.”
He added, “I’m very happy to contribute to the team’s success in any way possible, and scoring big runs would help the team finish the season on a positive note.”
Meir Heath’s Muhammad Raja was their top scorer with 29 runs from 27 balls, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the match.
