Tigers Tighten Grip on Group D Lead in Uganda T20 Cup

KUTCHI Tigers maintained their perfect start to the Uganda T20 Cup with two easy victories over Africa Cricket Club on Sunday.

The 50-Over champions pummeled their opponents by 141 runs in the morning game before handing them a 148-run thrashing in the afternoon.

Opener Nitin Jeshani scored the day’s only half-century (51 off 31) at Serenity Oval as his side posted 199/10 in the second game. The Tigers, however, benefitted greatly from their opponents’ poor bowling.

The minnows donated 43 extras, 18 more than they conceded in the first game.

Kutchi Tigers remain the only team in the competition with a perfect record. They top Group D with a maximum of 16 points. Africa, on the other hand, are the only winless side in the group.

Elsewhere in Group D, Mukono Development took advantage of Ceylon Lions being out of action. Mukono dislodged Ceylon from second place with two wins over Patidar, one of which saw their captain, Fahad Mutagana, score 66 off 47 balls.

Another one-sided contest unfolded at Entebbe Cricket Oval, where Tornado faced Ismaili Community. Tornado chose to bat first after winning the toss in the morning game but were bundled out in 11.5 overs for just 33 runs.

Ismaili’s stand-in captain, Junaid Khan, picked up four wickets in that game, and his side chased down the target inside four overs.

Tornado put up a better fight in the afternoon game, setting 108 for the loss of three wickets, but they were still no match for Ismaili, who completed the chase in 14.4 overs.

The two victories lifted Ismaili to second place in Group C, while Tornado remain fourth with seven points.

Meanwhile, Kutchi Tigers B were demolished by Mukono Warriors. Kutchi were beaten by 117 runs in the morning before losing by five wickets in the afternoon.

The Warriors climbed to third in Group B with those wins, while Kutchi remain rooted to the bottom of the table with no wins and no points.
