
THE Victoria Series bowled off with the hosts Uganda marching to a comfortable seven-wicket win against Canada on Monday at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
After winning the toss and choosing to field, Uganda who are ranked 18 globally bowled out their opponent ranked 31 with great ease. The
innings dragged up to the very last over, but Canada were only able to put on board a paltry 67/10.
It was a collective effort from the Victoria Pearls bowlers opener, Kevin Amuge especially taking a liking for Canada’s batting. The 20-year-old claimed three wickets- ending the day as the top wicket taker.
Naume Amongin however, was the best bowler of the day. With only 11 runs conceded off her allotted four overs, Amongin recorded the game’s best economy (2.75). The youngster was bowling for the national team for the first time since her debut against Tanzania at the World Cup Qualifiers in Namibia two months ago.
In their chase, Uganda did not have to toil to get the task done. They ended the chase in the 12th over with their captain Janet Mbabazi scoring an unbeaten 37 off 34.
Uganda lost three wickets en route to their victory, but they were never threatened.
Actions returns tomorrow with the second game; the Victoria Pearls will be looking to continue with their good start. They will be keen on not dropping a point as Canada are ranked below them.
