ACROSS the pitches of this continent, from Harare to Kampala, Nairobi to Accra, cricket has never just been about runs and wickets. It is family.
And today, that family stands together in grief.
Cricket Uganda on Saturday announced the passing of Agwang Lucy, beloved mother of Felix Musana, Chairperson and Founder of Soroti Cricket Academy, Owner of Soroti City Cricket Club, and Manager of Olila Cricket Club.
In associate cricket, names like Felix Musana carry weight. They are the builders, the ones who wake up in towns like Soroti, lay the turf, coach the kids, and insist that Africa belongs on the world stage. Behind many of those builders stands a mother who believed first.
Agwang Lucy was that foundation.
Cricket Uganda wrote: “The Cricket Uganda family mourns… May the family find strength and comfort during this difficult time, and may her soul rest in eternal peace.”
That mourning does not stop at Uganda’s borders.
From Zimbabwe to Nigeria, Kenya to Ghana, administrators, coaches, and players across this continent know that sacrifice well. We know the mothers who packed lunches for tournaments, who prayed before trials, who quietly funded kit when there was no budget for it. They are the unseen XI in every African cricket story.
Today, we pause the scorecards. We put down the bats.
To Felix, and to the entire Musana family:
The continent feels your loss. May you find strength in the community you have helped build. May Agwang
Lucy’s soul rest in eternal peace.
